Permit Process:
- Applications submitted through Community Development Department's ViewPoint Cloud portal
- Required for any new barrier or replacement of more than 25% of an existing one
- Processing typically occurs within 5-7 business days
- Building inspections must be scheduled in advance on weekdays
Height Restrictions:
- Standard height: Maximum 6 feet in side and rear yards
- Front yard projection: May extend 15 feet forward of building line with reduced height of 3.5 feet (42 inches)
- Posts may exceed barrier height by maximum 6 inches
- Corner lots: Each yard abutting a street is considered a front yard
- Structures completely within buildable area not subject to height limitations
Material Restrictions:
- Prohibited features: No wire, metal prongs, spikes, cutting points or edges
- Picket designs: Points must be blunted
- Chain link: Must be coated with black, brown, or dark green vinyl/plastic/similar material
Special Considerations:
- Supporting elements must face the property of the owner, not neighboring properties
- Construction on mound: Height must be reduced by height of mound/raised surface
- Ornamental/entry features: Limited to 42 inches height, 20 feet total length
- Multiple barriers on same property must be at least 5 feet apart
- Adjacent property owners may install abutting dividers along a shared property line
- Barriers permitted in easements but subject to removal for utility access
