Gahanna has specific fence regulations that every installation must follow:
Permit Process:
- Applications submitted through Zoning Division's OpenGov online system
- Required documentation includes property plot plan showing streets, structures, building lines, and easements
- Permit fees: $25 for fences under 6 feet, $100 for fences over 6 feet
Height Restrictions:
- Front yard: Maximum 42 inches (3.5 feet)
- Rear and side yards: Maximum 6 feet for single-family and two-family residential properties
- Corner lots may have a 6-foot fence in the second front yard that functions as a side yard (determined by city staff)
Material Restrictions:
- Front yard: No privacy or chain link fences; must be split rail, picket, ornamental aluminum, steel, or wrought iron
- Prohibited features: No metal prongs, spikes, barbed wire, or electrification
Special Considerations:
- Fences must be at least 3 feet from utility boxes, manholes, or other apparatus
- Finished side must face adjacent properties/right-of-way
- Supporting members must face the property of the owner
- Property owner must contact the Zoning Division to schedule inspection after installation
- Temporary snow fences permitted without permit in non-residential areas from December 1 to March 31
- Corner lots must meet sight triangle requirements per Section 1167.16

Cody, Colt, Dalton, Jonathan and everyone else was awesome! The Boys know what they're doing. My original fence had been there for over 20 years, and they had a time getting all of the tree roots out of it. But they did it! I went with the vinyl fence. Yes, it's a little more expensive. But when you have good installers, it's worth it. They'll be back soon!
