Permit Process:
- Applications processed through Village of Plain City Planning & Zoning Division
- Required documentation includes site plans showing existing and proposed structures with dimensions and property line distances
- Permits expire if work isn't begun within one year or substantially completed within 2.5 years
Height Restrictions:
- Residential side and rear yards: Maximum 6 feet
- Residential front yards: Maximum 3 feet with minimum 50% opacity
- Corner lots: Have two effective front yards
- Commercial side and rear yards: Maximum 8 feet
Material Restrictions:
- Prohibited types: Barbed wire and similar sharp-pointed fences
- Electric fences: Forbidden except on sites of more than 10 acres used to confine livestock
- Finished side: All fences must present the finished non-structural face outward
Special Considerations:
- No fence can encroach upon public rights-of-way or easements
- No placement in platted no-build zones, conservation zones, floodways, floodplains, or drainage easements
- All portions of property must remain accessible from outside the fence area through gates or openings
- All fences on a parcel must have a unified style
- Ground between fence and property line must be well maintained
